New Year Resolutions for Your Home

Happy New Year! Your finances aren't the only thing that has room for new resolutions in 2023. Consider these great ideas and tricks to make you fall in love with your home again this January.

Purge Your Space

Winter cleaning has nothing on the purging you can do with a resolution! Prioritize time to rid your home of all those unnecessary items and create extra space.

Seems overwhelming? Don't worry; consider tackling each room one by one to ensure it doesn't become too big of a goal. Go through each room's contents and try to remember if you used the item in the past year. Don't think you have? Then the decision has been made for you. Get ready for an emptier but happier start in just a few weeks.

Donate What You Can

As you purge, don't forget about those in need. Instead of just throwing away the things that no longer bring joy to your home, give them a new life by donating them! It's easy - make two piles as you go – one for garbage and another with items to benefit others. There truly is no better time than now when it comes to caring for our community.

Make Sure You Are Safe and Sound

A clean house is only half the battle – you also need a safe one! While your home will look fresh and organized after you've finished purging, you will want to put some effort into ensuring safety. Check fire detectors and fireplaces and investigate radon and carbon monoxide (the hardware for these tests is not particularly expensive). This is an excellent time to check ventilation as well!

Shrink Your Bills (and Your Carbon Footprint)

If you're looking to get a head start on your resolution of being more energy efficient, then the great news is it doesn't have to come with hefty price tags or require purchasing an electric car. Little changes in your home can make all the difference - like switching off lights when not in use, opting for LED bulbs and investing in low-flow showerheads and toilets are great ways that'll help save money over time.

Another way is to reduce the heating in your home. Consider our tips for how to reduce the cost of heating here.

Plan Out Home Improvement Projects

As we enter the new season, it's a great time to take stock of our homes and plan for any updates or additions that could make them even better! If you're not quite ready to start those projects in 2023, now is an excellent opportunity to put aside some money so that when next year rolls around, you can get started.

These tips are easy to follow and will help you love your home again. What's not to love about that? Found this useful? Share with your friends and protect everyone's finances. Check out our website for more great content like this.
